ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER

I have been involved with photography since I was a child shooting and printing photographs taken with my Kodak Brownie box camera. My early interest eventually led to more serious black and white work primarily using 35 mm formats in my 20s and 30s. As a professional researcher in the field of human visual perception, I have used various photographic techniques to generate controlled stimuli for experimental studies. My interest in photography for scientific purposes has continued to the present, including forensic applications to accurately demonstrate the visual scene available to persons involved in accidents.

In the last ten years my personal photographic interest has moved primarily to color landscapes. I am especially fascinated by abstract patterns in natural scenes. I have also experimented with urban and industrial scenes, portraiture and grab shooting. The latter will be included in updates to this web site.

I was firmly locked into film for many years but have slowly switched to digital photography for shooting, processing and printing.

WHAT'S NEW

In September of 2006 I visited Mono Lake in California as a volunteer photographer for the Mono Lake Committee. The Committee has worked for many years to restore the lake to its conditions in the early 1900’s. (The water level in the Lake was substantially lowered due to drainage of its feeder streams by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power as explored in the film "Chinatown".) The Lake and surrounding areas are unique with many unusual natural features. I returned to the Lake in February of 2007 to photograph under winter conditions. Some of the resulting images are shown in the Mono Lake gallery.
